Ju.j.u is a dancer and stand-up comedian who effortlessly blends seemingly incompatible art forms. In their solo Big Backstory, Ju.j.u explores, through dance and conversation, what it was like to train with a body that wasn’t really equipped — and to break their back midway through dance school. Big Backstory uses humor as an opening to vulnerability, rather than as an ironic shield.

The performance was developed during our residency program A Night Called Quest. We’re excited that this hilarious, yet vulnerable show is now coming to Happy New Queer Leuven.

Ju.j.u gaat met de billen bloot! Julian is danser en stand-upcomedian die ogenschijnlijk incompatibele kunstvormen moeiteloos vermengt. In hun solo Big Backstory onderzoekt Ju.j.u dansend en pratend hoe het is om te trainen met een lichaam dat daar eigenlijk niet toe uitgerust was – en om halverwege hun dansopleiding hun rug te breken. Big Backstory is een oefening in het gebruik van humor als opening naar kwetsbaarheid, niet als ironisch schild.

De korte voorstelling ontstond tijdens ons residentieprogramma A Night Called Quest. We zijn blij dat deze hilarische, maar ook kwetsbare performance nu naar Happy New Queer Leuven komt.
