RIOTING MENSWEAR. A QUEER EVOLUTION OF THE SUIT.

Lecture

17:00 - 17:30

In his lecture Rioting Menswear: A Queer Evolution of the Suit, PhD Researcher in Fashion and Gender Studies Nicola Brajato will discuss the role of tailoring in the making of normative masculinity and how this sartorial regime has been radically subverted in many aspects, from structure to styling, by several designers.

In considering the social and cultural boundaries that define male aesthetics, the lecture aims to show how thinking through fashion can be a strong tool to critically renegotiate the normative relationship between dress, body and identity, in this case against a “right” way of looking like a man.

MISS MARIA,

SKIRTING THE MOUNTAIN

Señorita María,

La Falda de la Montaña

Film, 90'

18:00

This 2017 Colombian documentary film was written and directed by Rubén Mendoza. Somewhere on the foothills of the Andes, in a tiny conservative, deeply religious village, lives a middle age woman who was born a man and has learned to draw from nature the energy she needs to face human cruelty. A portrait of an unusual feminine power, which shows us the difference between loneliness and solitude with warmth and discernment. Love is an animal capable of adapting to the most arid mountain of hatred.
