Who Cares

Bert Roman werkte als verpleegkundige in het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Hij houdt van menselijk contact, van nabijheid, van kleine gebaren die iemands dag lichter maken. Voor Bert is zorgen een vorm van liefde. Tijdens de covid-pandemie ziet hij hoe zwaar zijn beroep onder druk staat. De strijd voor betere werkomstandigheden, meer erkenning en een eerlijk loon sleept zich voort. En ondertussen botst hij steeds vaker op een zorgsysteem dat faalt — voor patiënten én voor zorgverleners.

Wat betekent het om te blijven zorgen, als het systeem je leegzuigt? Wat blijft er over van toewijding als je zelf moe en machteloos wordt?

Deze solovoorstelling is kwetsbaar, krachtig en doordrenkt van tederheid. Een liefdevol, kritisch portret van een vak in crisis en een mens die blijft proberen.

Bert Roman worked as a nurse in the UK. He loves human contact, closeness, small gestures that make someone's day brighter. For Bert, caring is a form of love. During the covid pandemic, he sees how much pressure his profession is under. The struggle for better working conditions, more recognition and fair pay drags on. And meanwhile, he increasingly clashes with a healthcare system that is failing - for patients as well as caregivers.

What does it mean to keep caring, when the system sucks you dry? What is left of dedication when you yourself become tired and powerless?

This solo performance is vulnerable, powerful and steeped in tenderness. A loving, critical portrait of a profession in crisis and a human being who keeps trying.
