Throughout WOEKER, a large collective quilt will grow across different cities and encounters. Dodi Espinosa, Lize Maekelberg, Nixie Van Laere and Toni Kritzer each create an artistic design for one part of the quilt. These four starting points invite participants to work together with textiles, patterns and materials, with weeds as a central inspiration.

Each making session is different and open to people with or without experience. Come make, experiment and meet others. All contributions will eventually come together in one large artwork, carrying the traces of the many hands and places that helped create it.

During this workshop with Nixie Van Laere, we will work together to create a collective quilt that weaves together images of wild plants—often dismissed as "weeds"—and memories of those affected by the AIDS crisis, including both victims and survivors. Participants will select a plant (from a collection of botanical illustrations, encyclopedias, and local archival materials) and a person, then explore the connection between them. Using textiles, felt, and other materials, they will give form to this association. Each piece serves as a personal tribute, becoming part of a larger whole: a quilt that makes memory, resilience, and interconnectedness tangible.
