A double bill

In The Singer, Bunny Cadag weaves theatre, vocal music, craft and movement together. Taking the trans body as a site of femininity and queer remembrance, she tells stories of what is passed down from one generation to the next — including what hurts. Through stitch, song and movement, she transforms that inheritance into something new: a story of healing and freedom, told from a transfeminine perspective.

Transgender trailblazer, dockworker, activist, empty shell… Priscilla was all of these, depending on who you ask.

Over the past year, Joppe De Campeneere got lost in Priscilla’s story, searching for the right form to capture her. Will Priscilla become a novel, a documentary, a performance?

In performing Priscilla (a work in progress), Joppe De Campeneere invites the audience into their writing process, in medias res. The text is unfinished, the monologue is not yet a performance, the search has only just begun.

In The Singer verweeft Bunny Cadag theater, zang, handwerk en beweging. Vanuit het trans lichaam als plek van vrouwelijkheid en queer herinnering vertelt ze verhalen over wat van generatie op generatie wordt doorgegeven — ook wat pijn doet. Met naald en draad, stem en beweging maakt ze van die erfenis iets nieuws: een verhaal over genezing en vrijheid, verteld vanuit een transfeminien perspectief.

Het afgelopen jaar verdwaalde Joppe De Campeneere in Priscilla's verhaal op zoek naar een gepaste vorm om haar te vatten. Wordt Priscilla een roman, een documentaire, een voorstelling? In 'performing Priscilla (a work in progress)'  maakt Joppe De Campeneere het publiek deelgenoot van hun schrijfproces, in medias res. De tekst is onaf, de monoloog is geen voorstelling, de zoektocht begint nog maar pas. Wat gebeurt er wanneer Priscilla uit het google doc kruipt en op een podium landt?
