Queer Lab

AQAF wanted to do more for young queer artists. Therefore  we are organizing a Queer Lab at De Studio. Five artists can experiment, create and inspire one another for 10 days. You are invited to come and see what that leads up to.

André Uerba/Short Hope
20:30 - 21:50

Choreographer and performer André Uerba explores intimacy as a practice of being together, along with five performers and a musician, in his new work “Æffective Choreography”.

ANDRÉ UERBA is born in Lisbon and he grew up in the suburbs with his brother and mother. Based in Berlin since 2013, he holds an MA in Arts, Solo/ Dance/ Authorship at HZT Berlin (2015) and develops group projects since 2018. His research is focused within the potentialities of an encounter, slowness and the concept of rehearsing intimacy in a performative and social context.

In 2018 he developed the project “Burn Time”, presented in Portugal, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Slovenia, Indonesia and Taiwan. In 2019 he developed “Pool of Emotions”, an event/ gathering that researches the relation between intimacy and performing arts. Between 2019 and beginning of 2020 he developed “Fire Starter”, in the frame of the 1 Year residency at Flutgraben Performances. In 2021 during a 4 weeks residency at Radialsystem, Uerba created the film “Inviting Moments of Stillness” and later the project “A hole the size of your touch”, presented in the frame of BoCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts (PT). In 2021 Uerba was part of the Re-Think (Accessibility & Sustainable Mobility) project supported by the Swedish Institute and Norrlandsoperan. In 2022 with the support of NPN-Stepping Out he developed “Æffective Choreography” presented at Radialsystem (Berlin), Halle am Berghain (Berlin) and Tanzbiennale Heidelberg.
Besides his choreographic work, Uerba facilitates workshops interweaving his knowledge gained with his certification as a Sexological Bodyworker from the Institute for Somatic Learning, Sexuality and Bodywork (ISB Berlin) and his experience within performing arts.

Madmoizel
23:00

MADMOIZEL is a composer, performer and producer based in Paris. Classically trained, the French artist draws upon a wide range of influences, from neo-classical to electronic music. Known for her captivating live performances with a minimalist set-up, she directs her machines with the precise gestures of a conductor. Somewhere between “Cold Synthétique” and “Cathedral Techno”, her lyrical & syncopated voice transforms her performances into electronic narratives, drawing the audience into the dancefloor. Since 2010, she has been touring the Underground stages and European festivals, as well as the fashion and contemporary art scenes. She has shared the stage with Anne Clark, Kas Product, Peine Perdue to name just a few,  and collaborated with choreographers and visual artists.

To date, 5 albums have been released on Objetrouvé (Berlin), TONN Recordings (Belfast), Lentonia Record (Paris), not to mention multitude of remixes, singles and featuring.

Unclassifiable yet identifiable, MADMOIZEL writes and plays a music of her own.

Uranians is a queer radio show that focuses on queer music. From electronica, pop and hip-hop to punk and burgeoning niches. Music producer Kaat Schiltz and philosopher Maïté de Haan discuss queer themes, theory and current affairs with a healthy dose of analysis, history and a critical eye: it’s queer after all!

In this live recording, Elioa Steffen,  coach of this years queer lab explains more on the idea of queering artistic feedback.
