Emperatriz Plácido San Martín (Lima, 1991) is een Peruaanse trans-non-binaire kunstenaar, activist, schrijver en tatoeëerder, wonend in Brussel. Hun werk gaat over de spirituele verbindingen die ontstaan in het dagelijkse leven — elk werk een symbool, geworteld in magisch-religieuze intentie. Een gebaar van genezing, bescherming en dankbaarheid.

Emperatriz studeerde beeldende kunsten aan de Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú en nam deel aan de Tweede Bienal das Amazônias (2025). Hun werk bevindt zich in de collecties van het Museo de Arte de Lima en Tate in Londen.

Die kwam onlangs naar België, op zoek naar verbinding. In hun eigen woorden: een van de meest perverse gevolgen van het kolonialisme is hoe het ons verwijdert van spirituele praktijken verbonden met het land. Queer mensen staan al dichter bij spirituele krachten — door onszelf toe te staan plezier te ervaren buiten de grenzen van het normatieve leven, stellen we ons open voor iets groters.

Emperatriz Plácido San Martín (Lima, 1991) is a Peruvian trans non-binary artist, activist, writer and tattooist based in Brussels. Their work explores the spiritual connections produced in daily exchange with the energies that surround us — each piece a symbol rooted in magical-religious intention, a gesture toward healing, protection and gratitude.

Emperatriz holds a fine arts degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, participated in the Second Bienal das Amazônias (2025), and has work in the collections of the Museo de Arte de Lima and the Tate in London.

They came to Belgium recently, and they came looking for connection. In their own words: one of the most perverse consequences of colonialism is how it distances us from spiritual practices connected to the land — weakening us by imposing organized religion as the only legitimate path to faith. Queer people, they argue, are already closer to spiritual forces: by allowing ourselves to experience pleasure beyond the limits of normative life, we open ourselves to something larger.
