Emperatriz Plácido San Martín (Lima, 1991) is a Peruvian trans non-binary artist, activist, writer and tattoo artist based in Brussels. Their work explores the spiritual connections that emerge in everyday life. Each work carries a meaning: an act of healing, protection or gratitude.

Emperatriz studied Fine Arts at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and took part in the Second Bienal das Amazônias (2025). Their work is held in the collections of the Museo de Arte de Lima and Tate in London.

Emperatriz recently came to Belgium in search of connection. They also bring a question with them: what do we lose when colonialism cuts us off from spiritual practices rooted in the land? For Emperatriz, queer life can offer a way back. By making room for pleasure beyond the limits imposed on us, we can reconnect with something larger than ourselves.

That is what Emperatriz brings to WOEKER: an invitation to feel that connection again.

Onlangs kwam Emperatriz naar België, op zoek naar verbinding. Die brengt ook een vraag mee: wat zijn we kwijtgeraakt door kolonialisme, wanneer we verwijderd raken van de spirituele praktijken die verbonden zijn met het land? Voor Emperatriz kan queer leven juist een weg terug openen. Door ruimte te maken voor plezier buiten wat ons wordt voorgeschreven, kunnen we ons opnieuw verbinden met iets dat groter is dan onszelf. Dat is wat Emperatriz naar WOEKER brengt: een uitnodiging om die verbinding opnieuw te voelen.
